REVIEW- Plastic sandwich baggies vs. reusable bags
If your household is anything like mine, you go through a ridiculous amount of plastic sandwich baggies every day. Snacks, sandwiches, toys- something always needs a bag! I came across SnackTaxi.com recently, and was intrigued by the possibility of a reusable bag. Could it be a bargain? What if I didn't have to keep paying for one-time use plastic baggies? At first, I was a bit skeptical, thinking that the idea of reusing a bag was a little strange. One sandwich-sized bag from Snack Taxi's website runs $8.95.
The bag arrived, looking good! It was very well made, with heavy duty stitching up the sides, and lined inside.
PROS:
-Durable
-Eco-friendly
-Great quality
CONS:
-Pricey in comparison to a box of plastic baggies
-Unless you own a bunch of them, you will be washing them frequently and having to use plastic baggies in the interim
-Not waterproof, can only be used for "dry" foods
Overall, I think it's a great idea to have a few of these around, but don't anticipate being able to use these 100% in place of plastic baggies. They work well for kids' snacks and sandwiches that don't have a lot of filling. They wash up well and I anticipate the one that I have will last quite awhile. For this to genuinely be a bargain, they'd have to be less expensive, and you'd have to own over a dozen to see a real reduction/cost savings in comparison to using plastic baggies.
